About Us

Service Provision

The Department provides nutrition support and dietary interventions/education to in-patients, out-patients and those attending day care services.

Dietitian’s/Clinical Nutritionists assess the nutritional status of patients, determine individual nutritional requirements and formulate a plan of care to meet these nutritional requirements. Education is provided for patients and carers on nutrition support and/or special dietary interventions appropriate to their plan of care.

Specialist  dietetic services are provided in a number of areas, which include Nephrology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Care of the Elderly, Critical Care, GI Surgery, the Stroke Service and Paediatrics.


Referral Procedure

All patients referred to the Department must be currently under the care of an AMNCH consultant.

Individuals who are not under the care of the AMNCH may access Community based Nutrition & Dietetic services via their own GP.


Out-Patient Service

An extensive outpatient service is provided by the Department:

  • Different types of clinics, such as Diabetes, Nephrology, Cardiology, Gastroenterology and Paediatrics, are provided on different days of the week.
  • Out-patient clinic for adults are located in either Suite 6 in OPD (click for directions) or in the Diabetes Centre (click for directions).  
  • Clinics for children are located in the children's Out-Patients Department.
  • Reminders are sent to patients 5-7 days in advance of their appointments. Patients who are unable to attend are asked to contact the Department to cancel or re-schedule. This allows other patients waiting for appointments, to access the service.

Service Hours

Phones are attended between 8.00 and 16.00

A voicemail service is available outside these hours.

Dietitians are available between 8.00 and 17.00

How to Find Us

Below are the directions to the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Paediatric Out-Patients service and the Diabetes Centre.

Directions to the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics (Suite 6)

  • After the lifts, turn right onto a large corridor called "hospital street".
  • You will see overhead signs directing you to the various suites in OPD.
  • Take the 3rd entrance into OPD, i.e. the 3rd door on your right.
  • Following the signs for Suite 6 and Nutrition and Dietetics, go straight to the end of the corridor where Suite 6 is located.
  • The appointments co-ordinator's reception desk will be on your left
  • Please arrive for your appointment early to allow extra time to find parking in the Hospital

Directions to the Paediatric Out-patients Department

  • After the lifts, turn right onto a large corridor called "hospital street".
  • You will see overhead signs directing you to the various suites in OPD.
  • Take the 1st entrance into OPD, i.e. the 1st door on your right.
  • Follow the signs for the Paediatric Outpatients Department.
  • Go straight to the end of the main corridor and at the end turn left.
  • The Paediatric Dietitians consulting room is the 4th door on the left
  • Please arrive for your appointment early to allow extra time to find parking in the Hospital

Directions to the Diabetes Centre

  • After the first set of lifts, turn left onto the main hospital corridor.
  • You will see overhead signs directing you to the Diabetes Centre, William Stokes Unit and the Psychiatry Unit.
  • Go to the end of this corridor and turn right.
  • The Diabetes Centre is the first door on your left.
  • Follow the signs to the Dietitians Office (Room 2).
  • Take a seat in the waiting area. (It is advisable to knock on the Dietitians office door so that she is aware that you have arrived).
