Ireland to host 37th Annual Meeting of the Pancreatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland

Irelandto host 37th Annual Meeting of the Pancreatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland

The 37th Annual Meeting of the Pancreatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland (PSGBI 2011) will take place in the Royal Marine Hotel, Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd December 2011.

It is the first time in over 30 years – and only the second time in the Society’s history - that this meeting has been held in Ireland, so it is a great honour and also a wonderful opportunity to build closer links with our colleagues in the UK and Ireland.

Over 150 people will be welcomed to the event; including gastroenterologists, dieticians, surgeons and pancreaticobiliary specialists from UK, Europe and Ireland.   Attendees will range from decision makers, leaders in their field and Unit heads, through young physicians, nurses, trainees and allied health professionals.

The Society is a multidisciplinary organisation that brings together not only physicians and surgeons, but also allied health professionals who deal with pancreatic diseases.  The 2011 Dublin Meeting programme reflects this multidisciplinarity and takes the format of scientific and plenary sessions.  A Nutrition Satellite Symposium will take place on 2nd December 2011.  There will be over 30 academic posters and 18 oral presentations; giving young researchers a great opportunity to gain experience and make contact with researchers and experts across Ireland, UK and Europe.

The international speakers are world-leaders in their fields and include the following:

·         Professor Peter Pisters, MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas

·         Professor Claudio Bassi, University of Verona, Italy

·         Professor Jakob Izbicki, University of Hamburg, Germany

·         Professor Roberto Coppola, Universita Campus Bio-Medica di Roma, Italy

·         Professor David Tuveson, Cancer Research UK Cambridge Research Institute

·         Professor Eric Raymond, Hopital Beaujon, Paris

·         Professor Caroline Verbeke, Karolinska Institute, Sweden

The PSGBI 2011 meeting will take place in the Royal Marine Hotel, Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd December 2011. Online registration for the meeting is available on the PSGBI official website www.pancsoc.org.uk.
